colour creep

karen klucowicz • Mar 15, 2022

this is the first painting in over a year where I have felt the urge to bring colour back on to the canvas

I have loved working in black and white. It seemed it was going to carry on through this year, however, during one of my concept journaling sessions, as I sketched and arrived at this concept I realized and felt it needed colour to express it. Could be the change in season coming, my studio relocation, or restrictions lifting - I'm not sure. As with all of my work I allow the emotions I'm feeling to determine colour and technique and this one, with the working title "resilience" is moving to a light filled canvas with colour creeping in and through the figure. I still feel the urge to create outside of a typical ground and use the textiles and frames that I have to explore new presentations of concepts.
